Mamsakizhi

Mamsakizhi anabolic bolus therapy for muscle wasting, post-stroke paralysis and neurological weakness at Agasthya Kerala

About Mamsakizhi

Mamsakizhi is one of Ayurveda's most powerfully anabolic bolus therapies — prepared with carefully selected animal protein, medicated decoctions, and rebuilding herbs, then bundled into linen boluses and massaged warm over the affected region. It is reserved for cases where deep tissue rebuilding is the priority: muscle wasting after prolonged illness or surgery, post-stroke paralysis, severe debility, neurological weakness, and conditions involving Mamsa Dhatu Kshaya (depletion of the muscle tissue layer). Where Njavarakizhi is the cornerstone anabolic therapy for most muscle and disc rebuilding, Mamsakizhi is brought in when the rebuilding required is even more intense — typically in patients with significant emaciation, atrophy, or post-paralytic weakness. At Agasthya, Mamsakizhi is prescribed selectively by Dr. T.D. Bose for specific rebuilding indications within longer treatment programmes.

Duration

60–90 minutes per session; typically 14–21 days as part of a treatment protocol

Key Benefits

One of Ayurveda's most powerful anabolic (tissue-rebuilding) therapies
Rebuilds depleted Mamsa Dhatu (muscle tissue layer) when other therapies are insufficient
Restores motor function in post-stroke hemiplegia and other paralytic conditions
Reverses muscle atrophy from prolonged illness, surgery, or bed rest
Strengthens weakened ligaments and supporting tissue around chronically affected joints
Prescribed selectively — chosen when Njavarakizhi alone is not sufficient for the depth of rebuilding required

Indications

  • Muscle wasting and atrophy
  • Post-stroke hemiplegia and paralysis
  • Severe debility and emaciation
  • Neurological weakness and motor recovery
  • Mamsa Dhatu Kshaya (muscle tissue depletion)
  • Post-surgery rehabilitation in weakened patients
  • Advanced osteoarthritis with significant muscle wasting

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Mamsakizhi different from Njavarakizhi?
Both are anabolic bolus therapies, but they target different depths of rebuilding. Njavarakizhi — our cornerstone anabolic therapy — uses rice cooked in milk and Bala decoction, and is appropriate for most disc, muscle, and post-injury rebuilding. Mamsakizhi uses animal protein with rebuilding herbs and is reserved for deeper rebuilding requirements: significant muscle wasting, post-stroke paralysis, severe emaciation, and Mamsa Dhatu Kshaya. The two are not interchangeable — the physician selects based on the depth and nature of tissue loss.
Who is Mamsakizhi prescribed for at Agasthya?
Mamsakizhi is prescribed selectively. It is most appropriate for post-stroke hemiplegia and motor recovery cases, severe debility and emaciation, advanced muscle atrophy from prolonged illness or post-surgical bed rest, and a small subset of neurological weakness cases where Njavarakizhi alone is not sufficient for the rebuilding required. Dr. T.D. Bose evaluates each case individually — most patients with back pain or routine joint conditions will not need Mamsakizhi.
How long is a Mamsakizhi protocol?
A 14–21 day in-patient course is typical, sequenced inside a broader rehabilitation programme that includes Marma work, internal medicines, and supporting therapies. Results are progressive — motor function and muscle bulk return gradually over the course and continue to consolidate over the 2–3 month post-treatment rest and medicine period.
